You can change default tabs, or create custom tabs and custom groups to contain your frequently used commands. I'm trying to see if there are any updates needed for Microsoft Excel 2016 for Mac. Another employee told me that I should see 'Check for Updates' option in the help menu. I'm not seeing that at all. What should I do? How can I update it?

I am so used to using Word that I am foolish enough to put-up with the crap. It's obviously a sickness. And likely one that MS depends on.Word has been a really buggy program for a long time - from Sierra through Mojave on my 2010 Mac Pro. My biggest problem through the last 10 or more updates, is that it no longer allows me to create a Default Document Style.
No matter how many times I do what I'm supposed to do, the next Doc I open has the Wrong Font and Document parameters. PIMA (Pain in my Arse). Leesa, I'm able to modify defaults and have them reload on startup. I'm using Word 2019. Your modifications, provided you make the changes your Default, should be saved into the file Normal.dotm, located inUsers:USERNAME:Library:Group Containers:UBF8T346G9.Office:User Content.localized:Templates.localized:Normal.dotmCheck to see if this file gets updated after making your changes, it might be a permissions issue. Also, according to this:best way to ensure your changes are saved is to open normal.dotm directly FROM WITHIN WORD, not by double clicking it in Finder. Thus, when you close the doc, you will be sure to be prompted to save it.Article also says if this file doesn't exist, Word recreates it on startup using built in Defaults., so check if this file is still there after you quit Word.Personally I've not ever had to do this, (open normal.dotm directly), i just make my changes then be sure to press 'Default' button, the file normal.dotm gets updated and saved in the folder mentioned above. As a final workaround, create a document with the defaults you want, save it as a TEMPLATE FILE, then drag that template to your Dock to create a shortcut.
Then simply click on that in the Dock, to have Word open on that template with the custom settings. Thanx Mcr!I'll try that today. It's amazing that Word is such Trash and so unstable that we need these complicated Workarounds to make them do what they're supposed to do.Edit 4:32 AM 2-15-19'It's Alive'!First time in YEARS that my Default is the format I like!I tried it the way I've always tried it, by just opening a new.doc and under Format Document Saving as 'Default.' Nada. Then I went to my Local Library and opened Normal.dotm from inside Word and edited that.doc from Format Document.
MU Editors: Thank you for splitting out 2016 and 2019 onto separate pages. One thing still needs to be fixed however, as of today (Oct 17, 2018) I received a MU update email because I am signed up to receive notices about Office 2016. The email advised me that update 16.18.0 Build (18101400) was available for Office 2016; I repeat the email says an update for '2016'. This is incorrect. Update 16.18 is an update for Office 2019 not 2016.
Anyone who applies this update to a retail/volume copy of 2016 will get updated and their license converted to 365 subscription, in other words they will be prompted to start paying subscription, when before they had one time purchase license. Now that the two product lines are separated and tracked separately, what needs to happen is that users who previously signed up for notices about 2016, need to separately sign up for notices on 2019 (IF, and only if they are interested in 2019). Notices should not be sent to the 2016 group unless it is an actual update SPECIFICALLY FOR 2016. Which as of today is stuck on 1500. Any future updates to 2016 will never exceed version number 16.18. 16.18 and beyond is exclusively for 2019 and 365 and even those will eventual split as well, when ever support for 2019 retail ends (2023?).
